Sensual and Bold: A Look at the Versace SS.24 Collection

What is Versace?

Since 1978, the Versace brand has been a leading luxury designer representing Italian excellency. With over 200 boutiques and sold in more than 1500 wholesalers across the world, Versace is one of the most prominent designer brands. Donatella Versace took the brand over in 1997, steering the creative direction to appeal to a new era and generation of fashion lovers. The brand now focuses on strong and fearless designs to represent the world of Italian luxury fashion.

The Versace Spring-Summer 2024 show occurred on September 22nd in Milan, Italy. The collection features outfits of various styles—from neutral wear to funky color combinations. Donatella Versace describes the collection as “joyful and sharp.” “The Versace woman is free and vibrant,” she says. “The Versace man is confident and daring.” The points of the collection are described to be “youth, personal confidence, and the energy of city living...” and the showcased pieces as “light, sculptural, and sleek” on the Versace website. The featured looks really represent the “strong and fearless” Versace image by playing with bold colors, contrast, and unique patterns.

The runway also represents this image. The website describes it as “feeling fluid and alive.” The design consists of silver and white-checkered reflective floors, a twisted path enclosed between white curtains, and a string of white lights along the ceiling to illuminate the silver tiles and exude a sense of freshness.

Classy suits

The show starts off with classy beige and more neutral-toned outfits. Kendall Jenner is the first model to walk the runway, wearing a short, cream-colored dress with a bedazzled neckline and silver ballerina flats. The Gianni Ribbon ballerina flat marks the first time a flat shoe opened a Versace fashion show. The flat is shiny, open-toed, and has a bow adorning the top of it. Compared to other women’s flats that are more casual, this shoe is fancy and eye-catching. The men's outfits at the beginning showcase loose-fitting, neutral-toned suits with long coats.

The looks become bolder and more sensual as the fashion show progresses, moving from beige to deep red leather suits on both the female and male models. The women’s suits often consist of a buttoned blazer and short skirt, with white, tall open-toed boots.

Plaid is a popular pattern featured in the looks that follow. Most of the plaid outfits are suits that are either black and white or white and gray. The male model’s gray and white suit is complemented by a reflective, silver bag that matches the tiles of the runway. The looks are modern and high-class.

Pastels and neons

Halfway through the show, Versace brings out the color. A trio of female models wearing pastel pink, blue, and green suits strut the runway. The pink and blue suits are plaid with matching bags and silver heels, whereas the green suit is plain with a matching purse and bright green heels.

The male models’ outfits consist of bright green and yellow suits featuring a pastel, mesh button-up underneath. Some of the men’s looks feature a contrast between neon and black—either a neon long coat and button-up over black pants or a neon button-up and shorts styled with a long, black coat. The combination of an achromatic color with a neon one makes the looks fierce and bold by drawing attention to the brighter parts of the outfit. The black accents the neon, making it more visually appealing. The choice of bright colors over the more common neutral tones of everyday wear allows the looks to exude confidence.

Jeans and jewels

A set of looks featuring denim and jewels is also shown during the show. These looks consist of jeweled denim jackets and jeans with bedazzled mesh dresses and tops, and are paired with white bags and shiny shoes. These wearable looks showcase a more youthful and playful side of the collection, and are inspired by early 2000s fashion trends. The low-rise, straight-cut jeans and mesh top over an undershirt is very reminiscent of early 2000s fashion. The recent explosion in “Y2K” fashion might be the inspiration behind these looks.

At this point in the show, viewers can see the versatility of the Spring-Summer 2024 collection. From fancy to casual, this collection has you covered!

Mesh and bright patterns

The collection features a couple of mesh outfits and various bright-patterned looks. The mesh outfits are form-fitting, with either a long-sleeve top paired with a tight skirt or a bodycon dress. The patterns combine yellow and orange, orange and green, and other warm-toned colors with cool-toned ones. Colorful tall boots of contrasting colors are paired with the women’s outfits, and white shoes are paired with the men’s outfits. The patterns are unique, pairing a rose print with a checkered background. The looks are fresh, colorful, and fun.

During the showcasing of the mesh outfits, Versace embraces the form-fitting items on various body types. One curvy model rocks a mesh top over a mesh pencil skirt. The skirt cinches at her waist, highlighting her gorgeous hourglass figure. Having models of various body types take the runway really accentuates the idea that Versace clothes are for all body types.

evening wear and formal attire

The fashion show takes a turn back to black for a moment, featuring black suits and dresses contrasted by tall white boots. This part of the show really exudes the sensual and city-living aspects of the collection. The looks also take a fun turn, combining bright yellow pieces with black ones. The looks play with balance, showcasing both color on top with black on bottom, and vice versa.

The last looks to be featured in the show are undoubtedly the fanciest. The models strut out wearing silver and pastel-checkered slip dresses, both long and short. Each dress is paired with silver, open-toed heels to complete the look. These looks really showcase the freedom and vibrancy Donatella Versace described the Versace woman as. Saving the fanciest looks for last gives the audience a sense of how extravagant and ritzy the Versace brand is. The silver checkered pattern on the dresses catches the light, causing it to reflect and glisten, leaving the audience in awe. The decision to pair pastel with silver instead of going for a more muted color shows a unique and daring side of the collection. With these stunning looks, Donatella Versace is reminding the audience that Versace is an elite designer brand that’s not afraid to play around with colors and patterns.

The end of the show

Towards the show's end, the lights lowered, and all the models came down the runway in two opposing directions. After the models finished their final walk, Donatella Versace herself came out sporting a tan and white-checkered short-sleeve top, a short tan skirt, and matching tall, chunky platform boots. She smiled and waved to the crowd, signaling the end of the show.

The Versace Spring-Summer 2024 collection is a refreshing addition to the world of luxury fashion. Each look is adventurous and radiates confidence and sexiness. From casual and classy, vivid and daring, to evening and formal attire—this Versace collection has it all.
